Novus Forensics

The Capital Novus Forensics Division is equipped with a proficient team of technicians and Project Managers that works to provide fully integrated Data Collection, Restoration, Investigation, and Reporting services. The Division has extensive experience collecting data in nearly every computing environment worldwide. Using industry-recognized and accepted procedures suitable for any proceeding, Novus Forensics leverages industry best practices in our secure facility to ensure data integrity.

Data Collection and Preservation

The Capital Novus flexible approach to collections, along with extensive international experience, makes it the best resource for launching a successful discovery process.

Data Restoration

Capital Novus utilizes state of the art technology which enables it to index and restore any type of archival information in a quick and cost-effective manner.

Investigation and Reporting

Novus Forensics maintains a significant analytic capacity. The division works closely with clients to provide detailed reports of the data collected and to interpret what occurred prior to and during the incident under investigation. We tailor reports to meet client needs, whether the matter involves a case for arbitration, a trial, or an internal investigation. A technician then creates a restoration report that outlines the drive size, active space, imaging application, and custodian.

Experience
Capital Novus’ experienced forensics team has investigated many types of cases, including:

  • Trade theft investigations
  • Misappropriation of intellectual property
  • Fraud on the Internet
  • Employment Litigation
  • Security breaches
  • Backdating incidents
  • Spoliation investigations
  • Auditing of data security applications

Recent project experience includes:

  • A domestic collection for a multinational corporation performed over two three-day sessions, covered over 60 custodians
  • A stealth collection of 25 custodians at a national security company, performed in one eight-hour shift
  • An international collection of over 80 custodians, performed on site in less than one week

Facilities

Our facility is capable of hosting more than 140 terabytes of in-house data storage and contains over 100 high-powered servers and workstations. Capital Novus maintains a fully equipped data forensics lab at its headquarters in Fairfax, VA that provides a base of operations for its computer forensics team and a site for the restoration of backup tapes and other archival media, as well as the extraction of targeted data from such media. The lab contains an extensive assortment of “legacy” hardware and backup software for the recovery of data from antiquated or obsolete systems.
